Legend says that people wear red clothes, light red lanterns, hang red scrolls on their doors and light firecrackers to scare away a mythical beast who would eat villagers during the night throughout the Spring Festival. The Chinese New Year is associated with several myths and customs. The festivities last about 15 days in China. And the Lunar New Year is celebrated in several countries like Malaysia, Singapore or the Philippines. Chinese families all over the world reunite and exchange gifts in celebration.
