With only 4 episodes, this is a mini-series that did well to keep me interested in watching it in one go, all be it with mixed feelings and thoughts. Let's get started with the cast. It is indeed a very good one. Actors such as David Tennant playing Vicar Harry Watling, Stanley Tucci who is death row prisoner Jefferson Grieff, Dolly Wells as Sunday Maths tutor Janice Fife, Lydia West enacting journalist Beth Davenport, and Lyndsey Marshall depicting Mary, the Vicar's wife, would let one expect a dark comedy that makes some sense. Except this miserably goes down the drain. Yes, I did watch "Inside Man" with curiosity. Yes, I laughed at the puns. No, I wasn't convinced by any of the illogical actions the vicar and his wife took, one after the other as if the intent is to showcase how ordinary people get carried away into settling for ludicrously idiotic deeds. The misfortune of the vicar leads him to take inexplicable and not really plausible decisions. And I know how many people of the clergy would behave: I am the daughter of a Maronite priest and I have met many priests, monks, and nuns of various rites and communities. On the other hand, the smart convicted felon dazzles with his understanding of human psychology and often comes across as a smug and pompous former criminology professor. My opinion of this show is rather mitigated. It is in fact long enough to entertain you and keep you hooked, but I'm not sure it would have been captivating for more than that...
