Wine has been considered a divine concoction for millennia. Recent studies show that red wine benefits our brains. Beware of excessive consumption though: it is only when consumed with moderation, i.e. one glass (125 ml) per day, that red wine supplies the following:
- it lowers coronary and cardiovascular disease issues because of its polyphenols content,
- it fights free radical damage thanks to resveratrol which controls inflammation and tumor progression,
- it apparently can also prevent Alzheimer's by slowing down the aging process.
The antioxidants present in red wine, such as quercetin, have a direct effect on the aging process of our brain and inflammation in our bodies. Polyphenols combat cognitive deterioration, obesity, and cardiovascular ailments. The fermentation process that turns grapes into wine produces resveratrol. This element protects against cancer, supports cellular and tissue health, reduces oxidative stress, improves energy and endurance, and protects cognitive health.
When buying your wine, beware of the sulfite, aroma enhancers, and stabilizers that might have been added by the winemakers. These can pose a health risk instead of providing with the aforementioned benefits of red wine. And again, remember that drinking more than the recommended amount can damage more than just your liver: too much alcohol poisons the brain. According to research, red wine is more beneficial than white wine. Enjoy your glass and drink it slowly. For one, it will allow you to appreciate the flavor. And it will also last you some more time than if you gulp it down! Should you choose to drink more than one glass in one sitting, avoid drinking the following or previous days to keep things balanced.
Have a good slide into 2023. Cheers 🍷
