I named this section Terra Mater after the Goddess of the Earth in ancient Roman religion and mythology. See, aside from loving mythology in general, I have always been drawn to nature and my aura attracts all beings with pure hearts. I can sense energies, whether with good or not so good intentions. This gift is helpful because I am genuine about what I believe in and I make sure to walk my talk. In the recent years, I have been more and more convinced that we need to be in sync with our environment and have been wondering what prevents us from shaping it with a positive overall imprint? I do not believe that humans are parasites on Earth. And I know many of us respect it by making sure not to overuse or deplete whatever resources they utilize. Unfortunately, many of us are unaware of the consequences of what we do to our gracious and generous host. In this section of my blog, I will discuss difficulties, some of which I personally encountered, and some not. Your feedback is highly appreciated. So feel free to comment, ask and engage!
To the nay-sayers who tell me people have more pressing matters on their minds, which I totally understand, especially in Lebanon where I currently live, let me tell you the story of the hummingbird. It might help you grasp what makes me do what I do, part of which is this new writing chapter:
One day a terrible fire broke out in a forest - a huge woodlands was suddenly engulfed by a raging wild fire. Frightened, all the animals fled their homes and ran out of the forest. As they came to the edge of a stream they stopped to watch the fire and they were feeling very discouraged and powerless. They were all bemoaning the destruction of their homes. Every one of them thought there was nothing they could do about the fire, except for one little hummingbird. This particular hummingbird decided it would do something. It swooped into the stream and picked up a few drops of water and went into the forest and put them on the fire. Then it went back to the stream and did it again, and it kept going back, again and again and again. All the other animals watched in disbelief; some tried to discourage the hummingbird with comments like, "Don't bother, it is too much, you are too little, your wings will burn, your beak is too tiny, it’s only a drop, you can't put out this fire." And as the animals stood around disparaging the little bird’s efforts, the bird noticed how hopeless and forlorn they looked. Then one of the animals shouted out and challenged the hummingbird in a mocking voice, "What do you think you are doing?" And the hummingbird, without wasting time or losing a beat, looked back and said, "I am doing what I can."
At times, we might feel overwhelmed with a situation we think we have to endure. When in fact, it might just need us to have a shift in perspective to appreciate the teaching. "Life isn't meant to be easy. It's meant to be lived. Sometimes happy. Other times rough. But with every up and down you learn lessons that make you strong" (anonymous). If only we would fight as hard to understand and learn... Next post will be about using water. Stay tuned!
