When I travel, I don't care much about being fashionable. But that is not a reason not to be well groomed 😜 With years of extensive explorations around the globe, I now know what clothes I wear, or not to make my journey as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
In the list hereafter, I will share with dos and don'ts and why:
1. Let's start with shoes. You need your feet to be breathing, happy, and pain-free. They are carrying you all the way, so be gentle to them! Wear shoes that are firm yet easy to remove, just in case you are asked to take them off at the security check. Avoid all footgear with metal parts Remember to wear shoes that are closed because airports are dirty. And no high heels, please! Once on board, remove your shoes and wear snug socks. The aircraft's carpeting is filthy and you don't want to step on any spilled food or beverage. Remember to move your feet and your legs, even on short hauls, because that blood needs to circulate!
2. If wearing shorts should be skipped, skinny jeans and tight pants are also a no-no. Even if your flight is only 3-4 hours long, these will become inconvenient as we are all subject to some bloating high up in the air. If you want to wear pants, opt for ones that have an elastic waistline and are broad on the legs. You don't need to travel in sweatpants and look like a slob with your name displayed on your butt though! Avoid leather and faux leather pants too. You could go for leggings that are stretchy and cozy. It's quite trendy to be wearing them now. Make sure the fabric is knit and not prone to wrinkling like linen for example. You don't want to be all rumpled up when you land!
If you want to wear a skirt or even a dress, choose wide and loose ones. They should be at least covering your knees. Aside from the dirty seats, it gets pretty chilled when the plane is airborne. And some flights do not provide blankets. You don't want to land with a cold and sneezing, do you? And if you are traveling from one weather to another, it's important to be dressed in layers. You can still wear that cute top or tee, but a scarf or a light jacket might come in handy in areas where it's colder. Just refrain from clothes reaching the floor... You don't want them touching the floor of the bathroom, do you??
3. If you can't live without being fashionable, even on a super long haul, accessorize to dress up your looks. It takes adding some necklace(s) and bracelets -after security-, a printed shawl, or a fun backpack to look bold and daring. Avoid expensive jewelry... and shrill colors though: you don't want to look like a scarlet macaw on the move 😜 This doesn't mean you need to go for white, as that attire will probably get stained very fast. And keep in mind that anything you wear should be practical and make you feel good about yourself. Stay away from metal hooks and buckles so that you can be in and out of the security check in a breeze.
In the next article, I will share with you what I pack to travel light and worry-free 😉
