Garlic, A Healthy Spice ... Or A Poison?

Garlic is reported to have been used as a medicine or an antibiotic for centuries, even millenia. Many a cuisine resorts to garlic for cooking, especially the Mediterranean one. This is mainly because of its strong flavor and smell. Several cultures consider garlic as a stimulant or an aphrodisiac.

Let's list the major known health benefits before exploring the less known facts by the common person:

- garlic can fight a cold and reduce it acuteness

- it can reduce blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels. Be careful not to exceed your recommended dose to avoid any hypotension

- it may reduce lead toxicity in the body

 

Dr. Sebi, a Honduran self-proclaimed herbalist and healer, considered garlic to be poisonous. You would be surprised to learn the following:

- garlic is man made, it is not a natural product

- its pH is 3.3 which makes it very acidic and dangerous for consumption

- it prohibits wounds from healing

 

As a conclusion, maybe garlic has antiseptic qualities. However, I can attest that consuming it raw or cooked makes me suffer from stomachache and heartburn. Since it stays in the body for a period of 24 to 48 hours, you can imagine the discomfort from eating it! It never gave me diarrhea but some people also have nausea from garlic. Others complain of insomnia or even unexplained fatigue. Fact is, many seem to be allergic to garlic. And according to Dr. Sebi, it should not be consumed at all in a healthy lifestyle.
