Marie Curie is one of my childhood idols. That's the main reason I downloaded this Audible book, which depicts 25-year-old Marie Sklodowska, a Polish poor Sorbonne student, with well-laid-out plans to succeed in the scientific field, which is a man's world. At the time, not many universities admitted women. Our protagonist catches the eye of Pierre Curie who sets out to pursue Marie romantically, while she is utterly devoted to science. The novel is brief and does not expose the works of Marie Curie. And while I enjoyed the narration, I was disappointed. The storyline focuses more on the relationship of Marie with Pierre and doesn't highlight her scientific achievements. I would have preferred to listen to more autobiographical elements but I guess since it's a fictional composition, one cannot expect a memoir.
