One of the most important lessons I learned in life was to cut off toxic people, regardless of who they were and how close they had been. The main types of toxic people are the narcissist, the controller, the drama magnet, the energy vampire, the compulsive liar, and the self-victimizer who can't be happy for others. I didn't want any of them to be part of any of my circles. Some were family members, some were people I worked with, and some even called themselves my friends. These people are usually jealous, self-centered, and don't care about anyone else but themselves. They will lie to you, try to intimidate and bully you, and will isolate you from your loving circle so that you remain under their sway. I don't enjoy conflicts. But at certain moments, I knew I had to stand up for myself. Despite my kindness and forgiveness, some things wouldn't pass. After I was certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) for the second time, I got rid of the guilt-tripping I encountered and cut off these people from my life nonetheless. I still helped anyone who reached out to me. I just stopped crossing oceans for people who wouldn't jump over a puddle for me. Realizing that the people in my support system were amazing and stood by me against all odds also lead me to grasp the maturing lesson of becoming aware that, in some instances, I might have been toxic too. And it's not casting a judgment on someone to step away from negativity. It's a self-protecting mechanism to set clear boundaries.
