An elderly widow sheds a silent tear. She is holding a rosary in her hand and silently praying. Praying for her son's soul to find peace. Many families in Lebanon experience the same pain of departed sons, fathers, husbands, brothers, or friends. And maybe one of the rare things that most Lebanese people can agree on, regardless of gender, confession or community, political affiliation, age, or region, is a deeply rooted respect for our soldiers. I really dislike uniforms of all kinds, yet here I am, saluting our brave heroes. Because these men give their lives to protect our freedom. They put their lives on the line to defend and keep our security. They represent the human shields who guard us from harm's way. Those troops displayed, in more than one instance, ultimate courage to safeguard our young and torn-apart nation. Their sacrifices showcase honor and loyalty to Lebanon. A little nation severely divided, with crumbling governmental institutions, and a highly self-centered people. We are indebted to our Army and on their day, we all salute their efforts and their stance!
