Kundalini serpents - art from Pinterest
Kundalini, a Sanskrit word for "coiled snake", is the origin of all energy. It is a major source of internal power. We all have it. Yet few of us experience it as "awakening". Unlocking your Kundalini can generate a transformative power. It can happen after years of practicing meditation, or not, and it can be triggered through an experience in your life when you least expect it. This process leads to a deep state of awareness and could be disruptive. So it is recommended to be careful inducing it on your own! It is not a dangerous practice in itself. It just can get overwhelming with the deep breathing causing physical sensations of dizziness or temporary disorientation.
Kundalini is traditionally thought to be a feminine life force and can only flow freely between open/unblocked chakras. Imagine the chakras being a single electrical circuit system that runs along the spine. As the energy rises, it will light up each chakra it reaches on its way to the top. Some of the benefits reaped from Kundalini meditation are:
- increased mindfulness and compassion
- improved communication
- inspiration
- clear mind
- greater purpose and intent in one's actions.
According to research, one can also experience lower levels of stress and anxiety, improved cognitive functions, and a deep sense of inner peace. In the Hindu tradition where the Kundalini concept stems from, it is an objective of spiritual development. It aims at connecting the personal consciousness and divine consciousness by surrendering the ego to become unified with the divine that exists in each one of us. Needless to say, to experience this advanced state of mind and being, one needs to go through a purification process of one's thoughts and be ready to confront deep-rooted fears and traumas.
Happy well-being journey ✨⚡️✨
